Mumbai: An incident involving Ashwajit Gaikwad, the son of Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation Managing Director Anil Gaikwad, has sparked controversy as he, along with a friend and a driver, faces assault charges against his 26-year-old girlfriend, Priya Singh, a social media influencer and salon owner in Thane.

According to Singh’s complaint at the Kasarvadavli police station, the assault took place on December 11 at a party in Ovla, Thane, organized by Gaikwad. Upon her arrival at 3 am, Singh discovered Gaikwad with another woman, allegedly his wife. Attempts to communicate with Gaikwad were futile, leading to verbal abuse from his friend Romil Patil. The situation escalated as Gaikwad physically attacked Singh, including slapping, strangling, and biting her.

Singh’s distressing account continued as she claimed that, while attempting to retrieve her belongings from Gaikwad’s car, she overheard him instructing his driver, Sagar, to “ram into her.” The subsequent collision caused severe injuries, including a fractured bone below her right knee, requiring surgical intervention. Gaikwad’s driver allegedly threatened Singh not to report the incident while transporting her to the hospital.

In a social media post and her official complaint, Singh’s elder sister, Akanksha Singh, accused Gaikwad and his associates of attempting to murder her sister. She expressed frustration over the police categorizing the incident as an accident and questioned whether the bureaucratic connection played a role in the investigation.

Akanksha revealed that Priya had been in a relationship with Gaikwad for over four years and was unaware of his marriage until recently. Despite discovering the deception, Gaikwad allegedly orchestrated the violent encounter, leaving Akanksha to question the motives behind the attack.

A senior police inspector from Thane stated that all three accused face charges under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 279 (rash driving on a public way), and 338 (causing grievous hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code.

The police are actively investigating the matter, reviewing CCTV footage, interviewing witnesses, and seeking Ashwajit Gaikwad’s statement in connection with the case.
