A recent gathering of the Maharashtra State Gazetted Officers Federation, presided over by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, focused on the potential adoption of the old pension scheme for state government employees and addressed other critical demands.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde revealed that the government is actively considering a proposal to raise the retirement age of state government employees to 60. Additionally, discussions included the possibility of eliminating the cap on the 5400 grade pay under the Assured Progression Scheme.

Currently, the retirement age for Class A, B, and C employees in the State Government Service is 58 years, while those in Cadre D retire at 60. In contrast, Central employees, State Government All India Service officers, Fourth Service employees, and employees in 25 constituent states already retire at 60.

In response to these deliberations, the officers’ federation has called for a one-day mass leave protest on December 14, advocating for the implementation of the old pension scheme and other outstanding demands for government employees and officers in the state. Subsequently, a meeting under the Chief Minister’s chairmanship was scheduled following discussions led by the Chief Secretary.
