Maharashtra Excise Department Seizes Foreign Liquor Worth Rs 21.69 Lakhs Near Pune
The Maharashtra State Excise Department, Pune division, has seized a consignment of Goan-manufactured foreign liquor valued at Rs 21.69 lakhs, including a penalty of Rs 13.82 lakhs.
The seizure took place during a routine inspection of vehicles near Neera Village (Taluka: Purandar) along the Neera-Lonand road.
The operation targeted a large tempo with registration number MH-03-CV-9468, which was transporting 160 bottles of 180 ml capacity each of Goan-made foreign liquor. Notably, the vehicle lacked any documentation or permits related to the transportation of alcohol.
Following the seizure, legal actions have been initiated against the vehicle owners from Surat and Dahisar under various sections of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, 1949.
Deputy Inspectors A.B. Patil and V.M. Mane were instrumental in the seizure and subsequent investigations. Deputy Inspector Patil confirmed that further investigations are ongoing.
This seizure highlights ongoing efforts by the Maharashtra Excise Department to curb illegal transportation of liquor across state borders.
Such operations are crucial to maintaining law and order and upholding the provisions of the state’s prohibition laws.
