Mumbai: In a major announcement aimed at safeguarding students’ academic interests and providing relief to educational institutions, Maharashtra’s Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil declared a six-month extension for colleges to complete the NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) assessment or reassessment process.

Minister Patil emphasized that NAAC evaluation is mandatory for all eligible affiliated colleges and non-agricultural universities in the state. The NAAC rating serves as a key benchmark for academic quality and must be renewed every five years to ensure consistent educational standards. Maharashtra currently leads the nation in NAAC accreditation rankings.

The extension comes as NAAC’s Bengaluru office undertakes upgrades to its online portal to accommodate the rollout of a new Binary Accreditation system. Once the updated portal becomes operational, colleges are expected to promptly begin the accreditation process.
