Maharashtra: Chandrapur Hottest in India at 44.6°C, 4th Hottest Worldwide; Heatwave Alert Issued for Vidarbha
Pune: Maharashtra is currently reeling under an intense heatwave, with temperatures soaring across several regions. Pune, too, has been experiencing unusually high temperatures, with forecasts indicating a continued heat spell over the coming days.
Heatwave in Pune: Rising Temperatures
According to the latest weather reports, Pune’s daily temperatures are expected to remain significantly high, with the maximum temperature likely to touch 39°C (103°F) by the weekend.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the following temperature trends for Pune:
- Monday, March 17: Hazy sunshine, High: 38°C (100°F), Low: 15°C (58°F)
- Tuesday, March 18: Hazy sun and warm, High: 38°C (100°F), Low: 16°C (61°F)
- Wednesday, March 19: Very warm, High: 38°C (100°F), Low: 16°C (62°F)
- Thursday, March 20: Similar conditions, High: 38°C (100°F), Low: 16°C (62°F)
- Friday, March 21: Slight dip, High: 37°C (98°F), Low: 15°C (59°F)

- Sunday, March 23: Peak heatwave, High: 39°C (103°F), Low: 20°C (67°F)
IMD’s Take on the Heatwave
The IMD attributes this unusual rise in temperatures to the absence of strong western disturbances and the early formation of anticyclonic conditions over the region. These factors have led to an early onset of summer-like conditions, significantly impacting Pune and surrounding areas.
Although some relief is expected in the coming days, the drop in temperature might not be significant.
Health Advisory for Residents
With the soaring temperatures, health experts have raised concerns over the risk of heatstroke and dehydration. Residents are advised to:
- Stay hydrated and consume plenty of fluids.
- Avoid direct sunlight during peak hours (11 AM – 4 PM).
- Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothes to reduce heat absorption.
- Be cautious about prolonged outdoor activities.
As the state continues to battle extreme heat, authorities urge people to take necessary precautions and stay updated with weather advisories.
