Maharashtra Floods : 45 people stranded in Yavatmal due to heavy rains

Yavatmal, Maharashtra, July 22 : At least 45 people were stranded in floods caused by heavy rainfall in Yavatmal district on Saturday, an official said. Yavatmal has witnessed heavy rains since Friday night, which has flooded houses and roads in parts of the city.

“Several parts of Yavatmal district have witnessed heavy rains since July 21, which inundated houses and forced people to take refuge at higher places”. People from the affected areas have been moved to safer places and the situation is under control in the city, the official said.

A rescue team from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) is on its way to Mahagaon to carry out rescue operation in Anandnagar village, which recorded 231 mm rainfall, he said adding that the rescue operations is underway.

A Mi-17 V5 helicopter is being inducted from Nagpur to evacuate people stranded due to floods in Yavatmal, Defence PRO Nagpur Wing Commander Ratnakar Singh said in a statement.
