Maharashtra Govt Launches Apaar ID System For Students under ‘One Nation, One Student ID Initiative
Maharashtra has introduced the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (Apaar) ID, a unique identification system for students from classes I to XII, as part of the central government’s ‘One Nation, One Student ID’ initiative. The Apaar ID aims to consolidate and safeguard students’ academic information, including school migration details, and will be issued through the U-DISE platform to streamline student records statewide.

According to instructions from Maharashtra Primary Education Council’s State Project Director, R Vimla, all schools have been directed to issue these 12-digit Apaar IDs by November 20 as part of this first phase of implementation. Vimla emphasized that this initiative is part of a broader effort to establish a standardized ID for students nationwide, enhancing record accuracy and traceability throughout a student’s academic journey.
To facilitate the roll-out, district computer programmers, taluka MIS coordinators, and school principals have been briefed on ID issuance and data management through U-DISE software. Schools are advised to hold parent-teacher meetings to inform parents of the Apaar ID and obtain necessary consent. The initiative’s progress will be closely monitored by Maharashtra’s Vidya Samiksha Kendra, with updates reported daily to educational authorities at the district, taluka, and state levels.
Each school principal is required to print the Apaar ID on students’ identity cards. Weekly reviews will be conducted by Education Officers through video conferences with school principals to ensure timely issuance. Additionally, group-level training will be provided for school heads, and daily progress reports will be shared with the Divisional Deputy Director, Director of Education, and the Commissioner’s Office to ensure compliance across the state.
