Pune, 22 August 2025: The Maharashtra government has significantly reduced the land acquisition requirement for the Purandar International Airport project from 7,000 acres to 3,000 acres, bringing relief to farmers who had strongly opposed the earlier proposal.

District Collector Jitendra Dudi announced that consent letters from landowners will be accepted from August 25 for a period of 21 days at the Pune District Collector’s office and the Saswad SDO office. Farmers who voluntarily submit consent will receive additional benefits, while those who do not will forgo extra compensation.

Under the revised plan, displaced families will receive 250-square-meter residential plots in the proposed Aerocity along with monetary compensation. Farmers will also be given four times the market value of their land plus 10 percent of the acquired land back in the form of a developed plot.

Authorities estimate that the value of these Aerocity plots will range from ₹1 crore to ₹2 crore, ensuring considerable financial returns for affected landowners. Additional benefits include provisions for separate plots for multiple families within the same household, compensation for landless and small farmers, and priority in job opportunities at the upcoming airport.

The decision, finalized on August 20, marks a crucial step forward in reviving the long-delayed Purandar International Airport project and streamlining the land acquisition process.
