Maharashtra: Onion Farmers Face Financial Strain as Market Auctions Remain Closed In Nashik APMC 

Onion farmers are feeling the pinch as market auctions have been halted for eight consecutive days, leading to substantial financial losses. In response, farmer organizations have taken action, setting up onion sale centres to alleviate the crisis in Baglan taluka and beyond the Lasalgaon market.

The decision to open these sale centres brings hope to farmers hit hard by the ongoing market closures. Despite the challenges in the onion market, farmers have shown enthusiasm for these centres.

In Baglan taluka, around 150 vehicles arrived for the morning session on Wednesday, bringing in about 4,500 quintals of onions. Prices ranged from ₹1000 to ₹1400 per quintal. Similarly, outside the Lasalgaon Market Committee, where a sales centre was established, 200 vehicles 

participated in the morning auction, with prices averaging between ₹1000 to ₹1500 per quintal.

Arjun Borade from the Farmers Association stressed the urgency of selling onions amidst ongoing harvesting and increasing expenses. With market committees shuttered, farmers had no outlet to auction their produce, prompting the establishment of these sales centres in Baglan, Saykheda, Vani, Dindori, and Satana.
