The Maharashtra Congress Committee has announced a statewide protest against the deteriorating condition of highways, scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 3, 2024. The protest aims to highlight the appalling state of major highways in the Pune-Kolhapur belt, affecting commuters and transport alike.

Scheduled to begin at 9 AM, the protests will be held at strategic locations including Khed Shivapur Toll Plaza in Pune, Anewadi Toll Plaza and Tasawade Toll Plaza in Satara, and Kini Toll Plaza in Kolhapur. These locations were chosen by district committees in Pune, Satara, Sangli, and Kolhapur.

Raju Awale, social worker, raised concerns over the longstanding neglect of the Sangli-Kolhapur highway. He questioned why issues pertinent to localities were being overlooked while problems persisted for years, impacting travel across districts.

The Maharashtra Congress Committee has intensified its agitation demanding immediate attention from the state government towards these critical infrastructural issues. The protest is expected to gather support from affected communities and commuters who face daily hardships due to the poor road conditions.

Residents and activists hope that such demonstrations will prompt authorities to prioritize infrastructure development and allocate necessary funds for the upkeep and improvement of highways in the region.

In response to mounting public pressure, the state government is urged to address these grievances promptly to ensure safer and more efficient travel for all road users across Maharashtra.
