Maharashtra State Education Minister Urges Officials To Lighten Student's School Bags
1 August, 2024
Education officials in the state have been told to make sure students keep using lighter school bags in the new school year that started in June. Last year, combined textbooks and notebooks were introduced for students in Grades I to XII in government schools to lessen the load of school bags. While private state board schools were advised to adopt the combined books, some parents have raised concerns that high school students are required to have separate textbooks for subjects like math and science.
However, a survey conducted in December 2023 by Balbharati, the state’s textbook publisher, found that the combined textbooks did not effectively reduce the weight of school bags.
During a recent discussion with education authorities, school education minister Deepak Kesarkar stressed the importance of ensuring that students’ school bags are not heavy.
