Maharashtra’s Higher and Technical Education Minister, Chandrakant Patil, announced at a city meeting on Thursday that colleges charging tuition fees from female students will face cancellation of their affiliation. This decision comes as part of the state government’s initiative to support female students from families with an annual income of ₹8 lakh or less, who are enrolled in any of the 642 sanctioned courses.

Patil revealed that, despite the waiver on tuition fees, some colleges have been reported to impose additional charges on female students. To address this issue, a task force of ten members will be established to inspect these institutions. Additionally, a toll-free helpline for female students will soon be launched to provide further support.

Patil also encouraged female students to submit essays detailing the challenges they face, which will help the authorities to better understand and address their concerns.
