Tuesday marked the largest drug seizure in recent action when the Indian Navy and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) jointly carried out a joint operation to seize about 3,300 kg of drugs from a ship close to Porbandar, Gujarat.

As per further information from the X handle of Spokesperson Navy “Indian Navy in a coordinated ops with Narcotics Control Bureau, apprehended a suspicious dhow carrying almost 3300Kgs contraband (3089 Kgs Charas, 158 Kgs Methamphetamine 25 Kgs Morphine). The largest seizure of narcotics, in quantity, in recent times.”

The Navy seized over 3089 kg of charas, 158 kg of methamphetamine, and 25 kg of morphine from a small ship on Tuesday. The five Pakistani nationals on board the ship have been taken into custody.

Although the exact amount of drugs seized has not yet been disclosed by officials, one kilogram of charas is sold for ₹ 7 crore on international markets.

According to a senior Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) official, the operation was carried out in the Arabian Sea close to the International Maritime Boundary Line.

The Indian Navy reported that a ship was diverted to intercept a suspicious-looking dhow (sailing vessel) that a surveillance aircraft had spotted at sea close to Porbandar. The vessel was thought to be involved in drug smuggling.

While 400 kg of the illegal substance was discovered in Delhi, 700 kg of mephedrone was discovered in Pune.
