According to an officer, the police in Kolkata had to entice a man with a packet of Biryani and a promise of employment to get him down from bridge he had climbed with the intention of killing himself.

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon and caused significant traffic disruption for almost thirty minutes through one of the busiest streets in the city, according to the police officer.

The man, who was subsequently identified as a 40-year-old local resident, claimed to have experienced extreme emotional distress as a result of his divorce and concurrent financial hardships brought on by losses in his business.

According to the policeman, he was riding his two-wheeler to Science City at 2:30 pm with his older daughter. He told her that he was trying to find his cell phone, which had fallen somewhere on the road when he abruptly stopped close to the bridge. He threatened to jump off the bridge after leaving her standing in the middle of the road.

He added that witnesses reported seeing members of the fire department, Kolkata Police Disaster Management Group (DMG), and a team from the local police station arrive at the scene and begin speaking with him.

Police were worried that if the man had fallen off the bridge, he might have struck the electrical poles or fallen onto the railroad tracks below, seriously injuring himself.
