Man posing as IAS officer in PMO held by Pune police

Pune :  In a recent development, the Pune City Crime Branch has successfully apprehended a man who was masquerading as an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer assigned to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). 

The arrest came after the imposter attended a program organized by a charitable trust in Aundh earlier this week.

The arrested individual has been identified as Vasudev Nivrutti Tayde, a 54-year-old man who had been impersonating Dr. Vinay Deo, claiming to hold the position of Deputy Secretary at the PMO and being involved in intelligence-related work.

According to police, the Borderless World Foundation, a Pune-based organization, had arranged an event in the Aundh area on Monday. The purpose of the gathering was to dispatch an ambulance to Jammu and Kashmir as part of a noble initiative. The imposter, posing as Deo, attended the function and presented himself as an IAS officer. However, the trustees of the charitable organization became suspicious of his behavior and claims, leading them to promptly report the matter to the police.

Responding swiftly, the Crime Branch Unit 1 launched an extensive search operation, successfully tracing the location of the impersonator and detaining him for further questioning. The arrest of Tayde, who resides in Talegaon Dabhade, was executed at his residence without incident.

Initial investigations suggest that the suspect had been actively impersonating an IAS officer during his movements. As a result, the police have initiated a thorough probe into his past activities to ascertain whether he has defrauded any other unsuspecting individuals through his deceitful acts of impersonation.

Tayde has been officially booked under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code that pertain to cheating and impersonation, further emphasizing the gravity of his actions.

Law enforcement authorities have commended the vigilant trustees of the Borderless World Foundation for their prompt action in reporting the suspicious individual. The arrest serves as a reminder to remain cautious and verify the credentials of individuals claiming to hold prestigious positions.
