Markets abuzz with Christmas festivities

With just a few days remaining for the most awaited festival of the year,  the mart is abuzz with several goodies, gifts, memoirs, savouries, sweets, Christmas special decor items available for revellers. 

This year many wooden, cloth and acrylic based items have made an entry in the market allowing people to go eco-friendly. Priced at an affordable rate, they are unique, colorful, bright and upbeat with the current trend. 
This year due the Covid19 pandemic and government imposed restrictions are still applicable till December 31, 2020 the buzz around social get together is less. The usual buzz is still missing in the market. 

Though the market seems to be dull the shopkeepers are positive that things shall move forward in the next few days. 
J P D’ Mello, owner of one of the oldest shop located off M G Road in Camp said, “Since the schools are closed this year the usual crowd of school going children is missing. These are the ones who continue to shop during Christmas for a lot of activities in school or at home. We are hoping for a good business this year. People still have the fear of getting out in public and are thus not seen in the market.” 

This year many handmade and wooden toys have arrived in the market. Gift articles ideal for children, youths have been designed which can be utilised or can be used as home decor items. Wall hangings, lamps can be utilised as home decor items. Priced reasonably they are available at Rs 1000 and above. Some of them are available at Rs 600 too. There are a variety of candles, merry Christmas wall hangings, thermocol decoration items, Christmas tree items, wreaths, dining covers, dining mats, hats, caps, glasses and many other items.  

Furtado’s another shop on M G road said, “The footfall is slow. People are still in fear of catching Covid19. Also, home celebrations have come down. There are many unique things in the Market for home decor and decorating Christmas tree. I am hoping for good footfall over the weekend.”
