The extended metro projects between Pune’s Shivaji Nagar to Loni Kalbhor and Khadakwasla to Kharadi are being actively investigated by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Rinaj Pathan, Chief Engineer, PMRDA Metro Division said, “A technical and transaction advisor has been appointed for the extended Shivaji Nagar to Loni Kalbhor metro project. Also, for another metro line of Khadakwasla to Kharadi, of which the DPR is of Maha Metro, we have appointed a transactional advisor & will check if the execution is feasible under a PPP basis etc.

Hence, for both the metro projects, feasibility checks are going on. Based on the advisor’s reports, the projects’ execution models will be decided. This entire process will take around 3 months.”

As per further information shared by PMRDA officials following are the details of both the metro projects:

1. Shivaji Nagar to Loni Kalbhor – The Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar metro project is being extended by the PMRDA, and an extension to Loni Kalbhor is being considered. Along with a possible branch on Saswad Road, the extended route that has been suggested passes through important places like Shivajinagar, Pulgate, Hadapsar and Loni Kalbhor.

2. Khadakwasla to Kharadi – The metro line that runs between Pimpri-Chinchwad and Swargate is managed by MahaMetro, which has suggested extending the route from Khadakwasla to Kharadi by 28 km. The goal of this extension is to improve the area’s metro connectivity.
