Milk adulterants worth Rs 11 lakh seized in Nashik

Nashik, Sep 4 : The Rural Police have seized a stock of milk powder and caustic soda worth Rs 11 lakh in a raid on a dairy at Mirgaon in Sinnar taluka of the district.

On Saturday some people were seen suspiciously mixing white liquid mixture with milk from two milk cans in the milk collection centre at Mirgaon, police said.

After that, a special team of Rural Police raided the Om Sadguru milk collection centre at Mirgaon, where the dairy drivers Santosh Vitthal Hinge and Prakash Vitthal Hinge (residents of Mirgaon, Sinnar) were found adding a mixture of white-coloured liquid to the collected milk at the milk collection centre.

When the police conducted a search before the pancha (witness), they found a chemical powder called milky mist and caustic soda used for washing clothes.

Following which, the police team searched the residence of the dairy driver, from where they recovered a stock of caustic soda and skimmed milk powder.

After this, one Hemant Srihari Pawar (resident of Ujani, taluka Sinnar), who was supplying milky mist powder to the dairy driver, was detained.

During search of his godown, around 300 sacks of skimmed milk powder and seven sacks of caustic soda worth Rs 11 lakh were recovered from there.

A case under section 328 of Indian Penal Code and Food Adulteration Act has been registered at Vavi Police Station against the accused, sources added.
