In a heartwarming story from Pune, a two-year-old boy named Amod Thorve has made an incredible recovery after a serious drowning accident.

Amod was playing near his home in Alandi when he wandered into a waterlogged field following recent heavy rains. His parents noticed he was missing and quickly found him submerged in the water. They pulled him out and rushed him to a nearby hospital. After receiving CPR and being initially stabilized, Amod was moved to the emergency ward.

“This patient was then transferred from Alandi on bag and tube ventilation to the emergency room at Ankura Hospital,” stated Dr. Chinmay Joshi, Consultant Pediatric Intensivist & Cluster Medical Director for Maharashtra at Ankura Hospital. “The boy was pale, non-responsive, gasping for oxygen, and had an extremely slow heart rate when help arrived. The full team—doctors, nurses, anesthetists, housekeeping, administrative staff, and security—came in to assist. The child’s blood pressure was very low and there was no palpable pulse. He was in a state of coma with evidence of severe encephalopathy (brain malfunction) and cyanosis (bluish or purplish color of the skin). The child was aggressively revived by the expert team of full-time consultant intensivists, trained ICU and ER nurses, and trainee doctors. More than 30 individuals from clinical and non-clinical teams were involved in the revival of this child. After four hours of aggressive efforts to stabilize him and get the heart started, the team achieved success,” he further added.

Amod showed signs of recovery within 18 hours and was able to breathe on his own. He showed no signs of long-term brain or organ damage. The little boy was discharged just 36 hours after arriving at the hospital.

Amod’s parents were overjoyed to see their son recovering so well. “We are so happy to see our child back to his playful self. We are deeply grateful to everyone at the hospital who helped save him,” they said.
