Heavy rain expected; Panshet and Khadakwasla dams to release water, citizens urged to stay cautious.

Former India Meteorological Department (IMD) Official Anupam Kashyapi has forecasted an orange alert for the districts of Konkan and the ghats of Pune and Satara, effective from August 1. This comes as westerly winds are expected to strengthen from July 31, bringing moisture from the Arabian Sea. An offshore trough is likely to persist, and a weather system is expected to form in the Bay of Bengal and move west-northwest, making the monsoon active and vigorous across the state.

In Pune, rain is expected to increase from the afternoon of July 31. Light to moderate rainfall is forecast for the city tomorrow, with moderate rain (1.5 to 6.4 cm in 24 hours) anticipated from August 1 to 4. Isolated heavy rain is likely on August 3 and 4, prompting a yellow alert for the city. The Pune ghats are under a red alert for August 3 and 4 due to expected heavy rainfall.

Panshet Dam Water Release

Due to the rapid rise in the water level of Panshet Dam and heavy rainfall in the catchment area, a total of 7,293 cusecs of water will be released at 8:00 AM. This includes 6,693 cusecs from the spillway and 600 cusecs through the power generation house. The discharge rate may be adjusted based on rainfall intensity and inflow. Citizens are advised to avoid the riverbed and move any materials or animals from the area immediately. This advisory was issued by the Deputy Engineer of the Mutha Canal Irrigation Department in Pune.
