A disturbing incident near Mumbai’s Mithibai College has once again brought attention to the issue of harassment in public spaces — but it has also highlighted the courage of a young student who refused to stay silent.

A  24-year-old student confronted an alleged stalker near the Vile Parle campus on February 16. The incident took place between 5.30 pm and 6 pm when the student was heading towards a snack shop with two women friends.

The accused allegedly began following the group and passed lewd comments, making them feel unsafe. Instead of backing down, the student took a bold step, she grabbed the man and dragged him inside the college premises while calling out for help.

Other students quickly gathered at the spot, confronted the accused and detained him until the police arrived. Some bystanders reportedly also assaulted the man before authorities intervened.

The incident has drawn widespread praise for the student’s bravery and has sparked renewed discussion on the need for safer campuses and stronger action against harassment.

Authorities have advised students to immediately inform college officials, parents and friends in such situations. Citizens can also seek help through emergency helplines:
