Nagpur: During the state legislature’s ongoing winter session Ashwini Jagtap, MLA from Chinchwad constituency, brought up the topic of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) proposed garbage depot project in Punawale during the state legislature’s ongoing winter session.

As per further information from the X handle of Ashwini Jagtap, “In the ongoing state legislature’s winter session, I requested immediate action on the issue of the garbage depot at Pimpri-Chinchwad’s Punawale. Also, I demanded permission for erecting an oxygen park on the proposed garbage depot’s site without cutting down any trees.”

According to Ashwini Jagtap, the PCMC has started the land acquisition process for Punawale’s garbage depot, but the residents’ health is seriously at risk.

Jagtap further added that in 2008, when there had been little development in the area, the project was first conceived. But since then, Punawale has seen a dramatic increase in the number of apartment buildings, schools, and medical facilities. With more than 1 lakh residents and being close to the Hinjewadi IT Park, Punawale has become a popular residential area. However, the proximity of the proposed project to several residential buildings and societies puts the residents’ health at serious risk. Furthermore, because of its closeness to the forest, environmental issues are raised. The site will also cause a bad smell that nearby residents in Wakad, Tathawade, Marunji, and Hinjewadi will have to put up with.

Thus, Ashwini Jagtap has requested to cancel the plans for a garbage depot in Punawale & construct an oxygen park on the same site.
