Pune: The water supply department of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has announced that the water supply for citizens in Pimpri Chinchwad will be reduced by 15 minutes every day starting from December 15 due to the reduction in water capacity available in Pavana Dam.

As per information, based on the suggestion of the city engineer of the PCMC’s water supply department, all citizens are requested to take note that the water supply is being reduced by 15 minutes from 15/12/2023 and PCMC has further requested to use water carefully.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Dattatray Deshmukh, Chairman, Pimpri Chinchwad Cooperative Housing Society Federation said, “Firstly, new townships are getting constructed in Pimpri Chinchwad. So, the majority of the water supply is used in these new townships. Secondly, if the PCMC is unable to manage providing appropriate water supply to the existing townships, why are new townships getting construction permissions? Pimpri Chinchwad is not able to handle the water crisis as the current water supply is not enough for the current population. Already, people are spending lakhs of rupees to buy water tankers. Only townships or constructions are on the rise in the city. What type of management is the PCMC doing? The federation is going to raise this issue in our next meeting with the PCMC.”

As per further information, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has written to the water resources department requesting an additional 9.81 TMC of water supply from Mulshi dam in order to meet the city’s growing water needs.

A senior PCMC official stated that residents presently receive water supply on an alternate day basis. Given the city’s rapidly growing population and the eventual need for more water, they have submitted a request to the water resources department.
