Monsoon brings bacteria-borne illnesses due to increased moisture. This makes it crucial to avoid unsafe foods. Here are common vegetables to skip during this season and why.

  1. Leafy Greens– vegetables like Spinach and Lettuce can often retain moisture and have large surfaces, making them prone to bacteria and parasites. Monsoon humidity accelerates wilting and spoilage.

2.Cauliflower and Broccoli– Experts warn that these vegetables are susceptible to worm and pest infections during the monsoon. The damp climate also promotes molds and fungi growth on their surfaces

    3.Eggplant – During the monsoon, eggplants are more likely to suffer from pest infestations. The high moisture levels also lead to quicker spoilage and mushiness. 

      4.Okra– According to food experts, okra rapidly spoils in the humid monsoon weather, reducing its appeal. The high moisture levels also cause worms to develop inside.

        5.Tomatoes– Tomatoes can ripen excessively and decay fast during the monsoon, exacerbated by the high atmospheric moisture that also increases their susceptibility to fungal infections. 

          6.Potatoes– Food experts caution that potatoes stored in moist conditions can spoil rapidly. They are also prone to fungal infections such as late blight, which can make them unsafe to consume. Moreover, high humidity can cause them to sprout and become unsuitable for human consumption.

            7. Cucumbers– In humid conditions, it can absorb excess water and develop a slimy texture. They are also more prone to bacterial infections during the monsoon.

              8. Green Beans– Although nutritious and high in fibre, these vegetables can spoil rapidly in the moist, humid conditions of the monsoon, increasing their susceptibility to molding and fungal infections.
