MPCB Issues Notice To Developer For Alleged Environmental Violations In Pune
MPCB To Audit Sewage Treatment And Waste Segregation In Housing Societies, Violators To Face Action
Pune, October 21, 2024: The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has issued a notice to a developer in the Vimannagar area for allegedly breaching environmental regulations, including air and water pollution. The action was initiated on October 16 under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, and the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981.
The developer has been given seven days to respond, justifying why their bank guarantee should not be forfeited and why legal action should not follow. According to MPCB officials, the violations include the absence of sewage treatment at a labour camp, unauthorized groundwater extraction, and the failure to develop a green belt around the construction site. Additionally, the project reportedly exceeded the environmental clearance granted by the board.
If the developer fails to respond, strict legal measures will be taken without further notice.
The board’s investigation was prompted by complaints from local residents and a site visit on September 20, which confirmed non-compliance with several environmental norms.
