PUNE:  In a remarkable feat, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), has successfully achieved the objective of generating 100 MW of electricity through the installation of solar power generation panels on the roofs of electricity consumers in the state.  It is worthy to note that this accomplishment was completed four months ahead of the target set by the central government.

As per information, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy of the Union Government had set a target of 100 MW for domestic consumers within a two-year timeframe, ending on January 19, 2024, under the ‘Roof Top Solar Program Phase II’. Mahavitaran successfully achieved this objective on September 25, four months ahead of schedule.

Lokesh Chandra, Managing Director, MSEDCL extended his congratulations to the electricity consumers as well as the officers and employees. He emphasized the determination of MSEDCL to continue the campaign and work even more vigorously, even after reaching the objective. Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister has instructed MSEDCL to prioritize solar power generation. Through rooftop solar energy generation, consumers can generate their electricity, resulting in a reduction in their electricity bills. Additionally, if consumers generate more electricity than they require, they have the option to sell it to MSEDCL. Consumers who have rooftop solar power generation installed are eligible for a subsidy of up to forty per cent from the central government.

Also, the company is actively assisting customers in generating rooftop solar power in the state. More information about this initiative can be found on the official website of MSEDCL at https://www.mahadiscom.in/ismart. MSEDCL has made significant improvements in the installation process for rooftop solar power generation systems and has effectively coordinated with relevant agencies. These efforts have contributed to the achievement of the target four months ahead of schedule.
