Pune: The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) is currently implementing the installation of strong and durable protective fencing made from fibre reinforcement plastic (FRP) for power security at public places and double pole structures in Pune Circle on an experimental basis.

As per the information provided, this innovative fibre-plastic fence offers numerous benefits when compared to traditional iron-mesh fences. Recently, Rajendra Pawar, Chief Engineer inspected the fiber-plastic fence installed at Lulla Nagar. Arvind Bulbule, Supervising Engineer, Chandrakant Dighe, Executive Engineer, and Rajendra Bhujbal, Additional Executive Engineer, were present during the inspection.

As per the information received, plastic mesh fencing is being installed on an experimental basis at 250 locations of transformer and double pole structures in Mulshi, Velhe, Haveli, Maval, Khed, Junnar, and Ambegaon talukas, including Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad cities. Pune Circle has distribution lines and double pole structures in public places, roadsides, densely populated areas, markets, and other locations. These public places have traditionally been fenced with iron nets to ensure power safety.

However, due to rain and other environmental factors, iron fences are prone to rusting, rotting, breaking, bending, and theft. Consequently, MSEDCL has taken measures for the maintenance and repair of iron fences. As a permanent solution, fibre-reinforcement plastic can be used. The rain does not affect a mesh protective fence. Additionally, it cannot rot and burn. Being strong and durable, it is not hard to break and has no value in scrap; there will be no chances of theft.
