Pune : The first-ever non-AC sleeper coach buses of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) will be flagged off on Wednesday on two routes in Mumbai.

The sleeper coach will initially operate from Mumbai Central to the town of Banda (Sindhudurg) and from Borivali to Banda. As per further information, once approved by the transport ministries of both states, the sleeper coach buses from Mumbai to Panaji (Goa) will be in service in the near future.

The non-AC sleeper coach bus from Mumbai Central to Banda will stop in Kolhapur and Pune on the way, costing Rs. 1,245 (Rs. 625 for female passengers). The bus will leave from Mumbai Central at 6.30 p.m. Similarly, the sleeper coach running from Borivali to Banda will take the Mahad and Chiplun route and cost Rs 1,169 (women passengers pay Rs 585). The bus will depart from Borivali at 7 p.m.

It is worthy to note that the town of Banda is near the Goa-Maharashtra border, in the Sindhudurg district. There are 30 sleeping spaces in the sleeper coach, which contains safety features.

Although it doesn’t have air conditioning, the coach is properly aired, and the buses were built at a centralized workshop at Dapodi in Pune.

On August 13, a bus prototype was added to the fleet.
