May 3, 2026: A massive traffic jam has disrupted travel on the Mumbai–Goa Highway for the past three days, leaving commuters stranded for hours amid the ongoing holiday rush. The worst-affected stretches are near Mangaon and Indapur, where vehicles have been moving at a crawl, forming queues stretching several kilometres.

The congestion has been triggered by a surge in traffic as tourists returning from the Konkan region coincide with outbound travelers heading towards coastal destinations. With vehicles moving in both directions in large numbers, the highway has witnessed severe bottlenecks.
Several commuters reported being stuck in traffic for hours, causing significant inconvenience, especially to families traveling with children and elderly members. Many vehicles have been seen inching forward slowly, with little relief in sight.
Authorities in Raigad district have deployed traffic police and initiated measures to ease congestion. However, the sheer volume of vehicles has made it challenging to restore normal traffic flow quickly.
Officials have advised travelers to consider alternate routes where possible and plan journeys during early morning or late-night hours to avoid peak congestion.
The situation highlights the growing pressure on key highways during extended holidays, with infrastructure struggling to keep pace with increasing travel demand.
