Mumbai On High Alert After Terror Threat, Security Stepped Up Across City
Security intensified at religious sites and crowded areas as Mumbai Police conduct mock drills following central agency alerts.
Mumbai Police have tightened security at religious places and other crowded locations across the city in response to intelligence alerts warning of a potential terror threat. Central agencies flagged the possibility of attacks, prompting police to ramp up vigilance in high-risk areas.
According to police sources, additional security measures have been implemented at various religious sites and public spaces. Officers have been directed to conduct mock drills to test preparedness at these sensitive locations. “Security drills are being carried out at crowded places and religious sites under the supervision of Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) in each zone,” a police official informed to a news agency.
On Friday, a significant security exercise took place in the busy Crawford Market area, known for its heavy foot traffic and proximity to two major religious sites. Police officials described the operation as a routine security drill but refrained from disclosing specific details. “With the upcoming festivals and state elections, these drills are being conducted across key locations in Mumbai,” a senior officer stated.
While there is no specific information regarding targeted temples, precautionary measures have been intensified and religious institutions have been instructed to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.
The security alert comes as Mumbai prepares for major festivities, including Durga Puja, Dussehra and Diwali, following the recently concluded Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. In addition to the festival season, the city is gearing up for the Maharashtra state assembly elections, likely to be held in November.
Authorities are on high alert, with DCPs closely monitoring security arrangements in their respective areas to ensure the safety of citizens during this sensitive period.
