Mumbai, October 17, 2024 – A private bus traveling from Kolhapur to Borivali collided with an truck on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near Lonavala on Thursday, leaving 23 passengers injured. Among them, 11 passengers sustained serious injuries, including fractures, while others suffered minor injuries. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.

Pune Rural Police officials suggest that the bus driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, which led to the collision with the heavy vehicle. A formal case is being filed.

Assistant Police Inspector from the Khandala Highway Police, Police Sub-Inspector of Lonavala Rural Police Station, along with team responded promptly to the incident. They were assisted by the Emergency Team. After a thorough inspection, all injured passengers were shifted to a private hospital in Somatne for treatment. Minor injuries were treated on the spot.

Following the initial rescue efforts, the damaged bus was moved aside with the assistance of a crane to clear the roadway, and traffic resumed smoothly. The Lonavala Rural Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
