A significant development has emerged for students and parents in Mumbai. On August 6, a major school closure protest will be held in Mumbai.  This protest is crucial for students and parents, as it aims to address various issues in the state’s primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools. On Tuesday, August 6, marches will be conducted at all district collector offices across the state. Additionally, a sit-in protest will be organized at the education inspector’s office in Mumbai.

This information was shared by Sanjay Patil, Mumbai Division President of the Maharashtra State Secondary and Higher Secondary School Principals’ Association, and Anil Bornare, Mumbai North Division President. All district-level teacher and non-teaching staff associations, the Greater Mumbai Educational Institutions Association, and the Teachers’ Union have extended their support to this protest.

The protest seeks to address the following demands:

1. Amend the government resolution dated March 15, 2024, to ensure that the principal’s position is approved in schools.

4. Immediately appoint teachers through the PAVITRA portal or grant permission to institutions for teacher appointments.
5. Revoke the GRs dated January 28, 2019, and December 11, 2020, related to non-teaching staff, and accept the report submitted by the 13-member coordination committee as is, and approve the non-teaching staff structure.
6. Grant recognition to non-teaching staff.
7. Appoint fourth-grade employees on salary as before, without assigning them honoraria.
8. Permit 100% recruitment of teachers for vacant positions in primary, secondary, and higher secondary departments in minority and less-commonly spoken language schools.
9. Grant permission to fill positions for arts and sports teachers in schools.
10. Implement a cashless mediclaim scheme for teachers and non-teaching staff.
11. Approve the old pension scheme for all teachers and non-teaching staff appointed after 2005.
12. Ensure 100% grant for all primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools based on their recognition year.
13. Announce grants for senior colleges eligible for grants.
14. Provide non-salary grants to secondary and higher secondary schools according to the seventh pay commission, and also grant non-salary grants to schools that received grants after 2008 based on their stage.
15. Expedite promotions/appointments for 14 vacant administrative posts, including center heads, extension officers, group education officers, and deputy education officers.
16. Ensure that proposals pending for months are processed, and that regional offices handle operations according to the service guarantee law.
