Murder Convict Flees from Yerwada Open Jail in Pune; Second Escape This Year.
A prisoner convicted of murder escaped from the open jail at Yerwada Central Prison in Pune on Wednesday, according to police reports. The authorities stated that Anil Meghdas Patoniya, a 35-year-old from Titwala in Thane district, was found missing during the afternoon attendance check by prison staff.
Patoniya was serving a life sentence for murder and had been moved to the open jail due to his good behavior, as explained by an officer. In response to the escape, the police have filed a separate first information report (FIR) against him at the Yerawada police station. A search for the escaped convict is currently underway.
