Baramati MP Supriya Sule praised the Railway Ministry for its initiatives to enhance cleanliness at railway stations across Maharashtra during the ongoing winter session of Parliament on Wednesday. While acknowledging the improvements, she raised concerns about the decrease in train stoppages at crucial stations such as Daund, Nira, Baramati, and Jejuri.

Sule remarked, “In Maharashtra, the Railway Ministry has done commendable work in terms of cleanliness, and I would like to congratulate the team for their efforts.” However, she also pointed out the significant issue of reduced train halts at several key stations. “For example, at Daund Junction, the number of trains stopping has fallen from 80 to 40. This reduction is adversely affecting the economic activities in these regions,” she emphasized, urging the ministry to restore stoppages at these stations.

In response to her concerns, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed his appreciation for the recognition. He stated, “I thank the MP for acknowledging the efforts of the Railways under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.” Regarding the issue of train stoppages, Vaishnaw assured that it would be looked into.

He also shared updates on ongoing and upcoming projects designed to enhance railway infrastructure in Maharashtra. “The Pune-Daund corridor is very important, and we have created a detailed master plan for this area. This plan includes building a major terminal at Uruli, completely redeveloping Pune railway station, turning Shivajinagar station into a terminal, adding a third and fourth line between Pune and Lonavala, and establishing a new line connecting Pune and Ahmednagar. Maharashtra will benefit from an investment of ₹1.6 lakh crore for various railway projects,” he explained.

Railway officials in Pune confirmed that many of these projects are currently in progress or will begin shortly.
