PUNE: In an interesting turn of events, a natural drain measuring 40 feet in length, originating in the Taljai Panchgaon-Pahari forest division at Hingne in the Sinhagad road area, has disappeared. Based on the information received, environmentalist Anant Gharat has filed a complaint stating that the drain has disappeared.

As per information, the drain was documented in a survey conducted by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC)  through a private organization. However, a complaint has now been filed with the civic administration, alleging that the drain has disappeared as it only existed on paper.

As per the information provided, instances of drains being dug in the city have been frequent. After concerns were raised about constructions on drains, the PMC conducted a survey with the help of an NGO. The survey revealed that drains in the city and suburbs had been dug up, and numerous structures had been built on them. However, no action was taken by the civic administration despite this revelation.

Several years ago, encroachments and constructions on drains were brought to light following the flooding of the Ambil Odha. However, the practice of constructing structures by digging drains has continued, as the civic body only conducts surveys and is reluctant to take actual action. The city has already experienced waterlogging in areas such as Bavdhan, Lohgaon, Wagholi, Undri, and Pisoli due to drains being clogged.

In this context, a drain in Hingne has now disappeared. The drain originated from Survey No. 5 at Hingne Khurd and joined the Mutha River from Hingne.  As per the information received, environmentalist Anant Gharat has filed a complaint stating that the drain has disappeared.
