NCW Launches 24x7 Helpline 14490 for Women’s Safety Across India
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has introduced a new 24×7 short code helpline 14490 to provide faster, more accessible assistance to women in distress across the country.
The toll-free number, designed as a simple and easy-to-remember short code, is directly linked to NCW’s existing helpline 7827170170. According to officials, integrating both numbers will enable quicker response and eliminate delays, ensuring women receive immediate support at no cost.
NCW stated that the new helpline will serve as the first point of contact for women facing harassment, violence, abuse, or any form of threat. Callers will be guided instantly, and the system will coordinate with police, district authorities, and relevant support agencies to ensure timely intervention.
“This short code is meant to ensure that no woman hesitates to reach out in an emergency. Quick access can often make all the difference,” the Commission said in a statement.
