Pune: Talks about setting up of a new Indian Institute of Management (IIM), an important institution of the Central Government in the field of education, to be set up at Moshi is doing the rounds as the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has sent a proposal to the District Collector’s office.  In addition, the district administration has approached the IIM authorities to inspect the land.

As per further information, the students of Pimpri-Chinchwad and surrounding areas should be provided with a platform of the right to study in a nationally recognized educational institution. Also, employment and entrepreneurship should be promoted. From this concept, the Indian Institute of Management should have a branch in the city. MLA Mahesh Landge demanded that space should be made available and basic facilities should be created and follow-up should be done with the concerned organization. Accordingly, municipal administration and district administration have started acting on the proposal.

Trials are underway to start an expanded branch of the IIM-Nagpur Institute on 60 acres of government land at Moshi. At this place, three roads of 12 meters and 18 meters are planned from the Government site. A proposal has been sent to transfer the said site to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Administration. The idea is to set up an IIM in 60 acres of land. Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh has sent a positive letter to the collector’s office to take legal action in this regard and get approval from the government.

Once referred to as a garbage depot area, Moshi is likely to gain recognition as a national-level educational institution. Earlier, the first Jagadguru of Maharashtra Sant Tukaram Maharaj Sant Peeth was inaugurated at Talgaon Chikhali. A grand building of Pimpri-Chinchwad Court with state-of-the-art facilities is being constructed in Moshi. Interestingly, a branch of the Government Engineering College is also being established in the city. Now if the IIM Institute is established in the city, the identity of Pimpri-Chinchwad will be prominently highlighted on the world map.

Given the demand made by the municipal administration of Pimpri-Chinchwad, the Indian Institute should submit a demand proposal for seats in Tables A, B, C, and D in the prescribed format to the office of Additional Tehsildar Pimpri-Chinchwad. Resident Deputy Collector Jyoti Kadam has sent a letter to the Indian Institute of Nagpur saying that it is convenient to take further action. The place will be inspected after receiving the place demand proposal from this organization. After that, necessary administrative action will be taken for branch expansion.

Mahesh Landge, BJP MLA, Pimpri Chinchwad, said “The district administration has written to the IIM institute. Accordingly, after receiving the site demand proposal, further action will be taken through the Pimpri-Chinchwad Upper Tehsil Office. Considering the increasing urbanization of future cities including big cities like Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Mumbai, industrial belt, and IT hub, in terms of ‘connectivity’ it is in the interest of the city to set up a branch of the IIM institute at an area in Moshi. Accordingly, we will follow up under the guidance of Deputy Chief Minister of the state, Devendra Fadnavis.”
