New Maratha Tourism Train to Begin June 9, Offering 6-Day Heritage Tour Across Maharashtra’s Iconic Forts
Starting June 9, Indian Railways will launch a special tourism initiative — the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Glorious Maratha Tourism Train — offering travelers a six-day heritage journey through Maharashtra’s legendary Maratha forts and temples. Operated by IRCTC under the Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train scheme, the tour is designed to immerse passengers in the history and valor of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Departing from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), with boarding available at Dadar and Thane, the train will cover several historically and spiritually significant sites:
Raigad Fort – the capital of Shivaji’s empire and his coronation site
Lal Mahal, Pune – Shivaji’s childhood home
Kasba Ganapati Temple – Pune’s presiding deity
Shivsrushti – an interactive theme park on Maratha history
Shivneri Fort – Shivaji Maharaj’s birthplace
Bhimashankar Temple – a revered Jyotirlinga shrine
Pratapgad Fort – site of the legendary battle with Afzal Khan
Ambabai Temple, Kolhapur – also known as Karveer Nivasini
Panhala Fort – a major military outpost of the Maratha empire
