Indian Passport Rules Update: The Indian government has introduced several changes to passport regulations under the Passport Rules, 1980. These amendments, recently notified in the official gazette, will come into effect soon. 1. Mandatory Birth Certificate for Applicants Born After October 1, 2023

As per the revised norms, individuals born on or after October 1, 2023, must submit a birth certificate while applying for a passport. The certificate must be issued by an authorized authority under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, such as a municipal corporation or other notified body.

For those born before October 1, 2023, alternative identity documents like SSC Board Certificate, School Leaving Certificate, PAN Card, Driving Licence, or other valid government-issued IDs will still be accepted.

2. Address Will No Longer Be Printed on Passport

In a significant change, the permanent address will no longer be printed on the last page of the passport. Instead, a barcode will be featured. Immigration officials can scan this barcode to access the applicant’s address and other relevant details, enhancing both privacy and efficiency.

3. Color-Coded Passport Covers for Easier Classification

To distinguish between types of passport holders, the government will now issue color-coded passport covers:

• White – For government officials
• Red – For diplomatic personnel
• Blue – For regular citizens (remains unchanged)

4. Parents’ Names to Be Removed from PassportThe updated rules will exclude parents’ names from the last page of the passport.
