As the alliance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena, and the NCP heads toward a significant win in Maharashtra, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis addressed the crucial question of who will succeed as the next Chief Minister of the state.

The BJP was on fire, leading the NDA to a massive victory in Maharashtra with over 220 seats in its favor.

The NDA, referred to as the Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra, quickly crossed the majority threshold in the early trends and established a significant lead over the rival MVA right after the vote counting began at 8 am. The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which includes the Congress and the factions of Sena and NCP led by Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar, respectively, has been struggling to close the gap, currently projected to secure only 51 seats.

In response to the NDA’s impressive victory and the inquiry about the next chief minister, Maharashtra CM and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde stated, “Let’s wait for the final results… After that, just as we campaigned together, all three parties will convene and make a decision.”

Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis echoed this sentiment, mentioning that the three parties would come together to decide.

“There won’t be any disagreement regarding the chief minister’s position. From the very beginning, it was agreed that after the elections, the leaders of the three parties would come together to make this decision. The outcome will be accepted by everyone, and there will be no disputes about it.”

The ruling Mahayuti alliance consists of the Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Ajit Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

Fadnavis’s comments come in light of reports indicating divisions within the ruling Mahayuti regarding who will lead the next government, as various parties are vying for the chief minister’s position.

On Friday, Shiv Sena MLA and party spokesperson Sanjay Shirsat stated that the assembly elections were fought with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as the main candidate. “The voters have expressed their preference for Shinde through their votes. I believe it is Shinde’s right to be the next CM, and we are confident that he will take on that role,” Shirsat said.
