Nine Old Explosives Found Near Pimpri Railway Station Seized By Police
Pune, May 10, 2025 — Nine rusted, bomb-like explosives were discovered near the railway tracks close to Pimpri railway station on Friday, raising concerns about unexploded ordnance in the area.
Upon receiving the report, a team from the Government Railway Police (GRP), Pune, quickly reached the site and assessed the situation. The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) was then alerted and dispatched to handle the explosives.
Officials from the BDDS confirmed that the items were unexploded ordnance (UXO), likely left unattended for over six months. The team safely seized the items for further investigation and disposal, according to Pramod Khopikar, Police Inspector.
Authorities reassured the public that the explosives were unrelated to any recent geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan. Police attributed the discovery to the long history of military and defense institutions around Pune, where unexploded munitions from earlier times, particularly from the pre-Independence era, can sometimes resurface.
This incident adds to a series of similar findings in Pune, where old, rusted grenades and explosives have been discovered in various locations. Each time, the police have followed proper procedures to safely dispose of the dangerous items.
