No More Nandu! CBFC Discontinues Akshay Kumar’s Anti-Smoking Ad After Over 6 Years, Marking the End of an Era
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has decided to remove Akshay Kumar’s popular anti-smoking advertisement, affectionately known as the “Nandu” ad, from theatres after more than six years. The ad, which had become a staple before film screenings, has now been replaced by a new anti-smoking campaign.
The “Nandu” ad, first released in 2018, featured Kumar advising a man named Nandu to spend his money on sanitary pads instead of cigarettes. This message, delivered with Kumar’s characteristic style, resonated with audiences and had become well-loved over the years. However, the CBFC has now introduced a new ad that highlights the immediate health benefits of quitting smoking.
The replacement campaign made its debut with recent film releases like Jigra, starring Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, featuring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri. While fans will miss the familiar “Nandu” ad, the new campaign aims to continue delivering an impactful anti-smoking message.
