New beta update reveals option to automatically send messages later, without manual follow-up

WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow users to schedule messages and have them delivered automatically at a chosen date and time. The upcoming update is expected to make birthday wishes, reminders and work-related messages easier to manage.

According to reports citing WABetaInfo, the feature has been spotted in the latest WhatsApp beta update for iOS (version 26.7.10.72), available through the TestFlight app. Once rolled out, users will be able to type a message and select a specific date and time for it to be sent automatically.

The scheduled message will remain queued until the selected time arrives. After that, it will be delivered to the recipient without any further action required from the sender.

WhatsApp is also expected to provide a dedicated section within the Chat Info screen where users can view and manage all pending scheduled messages. This will allow users to edit or delete scheduled messages before they are sent. If a message is deleted before the scheduled time, no notification or alert will be generated on the recipient’s device.

The feature is likely to work across both individual chats and group conversations. This makes it useful not only for personal messages like birthday greetings but also for appointment reminders, event announcements and professional updates.

Currently, iPhone users can schedule messages using Apple’s Shortcuts app, but the process requires manual automation setup. The upcoming native scheduling feature inside WhatsApp is expected to simplify this process significantly.

Reports suggest that the new option draws inspiration from WhatsApp’s Business Broadcast feature, which allows businesses to schedule promotional messages. However, unlike Business Broadcasts, the scheduling feature will reportedly be available free of charge to all users.

The feature is still under development and is expected to roll out first to select beta testers before a wider public release.
