Zomato has temporarily stopped delivering non-vegetarian food in a number of North Indian states in response to a government directive. People from different cities complained on X about no non-vegetarian food options. The relocation is reportedly being made in honor of the Ram Mandir’s consecration ceremony in Ayodhya, an occasion of great religious and cultural significance.

As per further information from the X handle of Zomato Care ā€œHi, we have disabled delivery of non-veg items in Uttar Pradesh, Assam, ā Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan as per govt. notice. Hope this clarification helps!ā€

Uttar Pradesh’s National Restaurant Association of India head, Varun Khera, confirmed that eateries in the state had decided to serve only vegetarian food on January 22. Khera underlined the importance of following the government’s directive, particularly in light of the significance of the Ayodhya incident.

Meat stores in the impacted states were closed in observance of the Ram Mandir ceremony. On January 22, district magistrates were instructed by Uttar Pradesh’s chief secretary, Durga Shankar Mishra, to ensure that meat and liquor stores were closed.
