In a terrible fire incident on 22nd January, a fire broke out in 2 godowns at Jai Malhar Colony, Walhekarwadi, Chinchwad. Two workers died in the fire accident. 

As per further information, a person called Rameshwari Nilesh Laavandyia called at 2:24 am to the Fire Control Room at Main Fire Station, Pimpri and informed that there was a fire in the Patra Shed at Jai Malhar Colony, Walhekarwadi, Chinchwad. Three fire engines, two each from Chikhali Fire Station and one Thergaon Fire Station were dispatched to the spot.

Firstly, the Pradhikaran’s deputy fire brigade reached the spot, followed by Pimpri fire brigade, Thergaon and Chikhali deputy fire brigades.

Two Patra Sheds were on fire at the said place, both the godowns were fully engulfed, preliminary inspection revealed that the first godown had wood, hand saw machines, air compressors, other inflammable materials and equipment.

Within hours, the MH 14 DX 9701 car caught fire and in the second godown, aluminum frames, two wheelers vehicles and two persons were there. The two persons fell unconscious due to the lack of oxygen gas in the shed due to the fumes of fire (carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide). It was found that the 2 people were found unconscious who were immediately sent to nearby hospital when the fire was being contained by the officers. 

The fire was completely extinguished by spraying water on the fire through the water line with the help of a fire hose and hose reel. All the residents of the adjacent residential building in the said area were safely evacuated out of the building with the help of the police.

Around 35 to 40 fire officers with a total of 5 fire engines from 4 fire stations of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation made tireless efforts to douse the fire.
