Pune: The Pune Police have registered cases against around 45 Pune Ganesh Mandals for crossing noise decibel limits during the Ganesh festival.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, R Raja, DCP (Special Branch), Pune Police said, “We are constantly analyzing and exploring the issue of noise nuisance through different mandals. We have registered cases against about 40 to 45 Ganesh Mandals so far.”

As per further information shared by R Raja, Ganesh Mandals from almost the entire Pune city have been booked so far.

On September 27, a terrible incident took place in Hinjewadi during the Ganesh immersion procession of Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandals, a young man died due to very loud sound. For a long time, the extremely loud sound emitting from the music system continued playing.

The COEP Technological University recorded key observations and sound level statistics every four hours on September 28 and September 29 this year at 10 major squares of Lakshmi Road, where the main procession concluded this year.

As per the data, the highest noise level recorded was 129.8 dB at Khandoji Baba Chowk.

Thus, Pune Police have registered cases against 40 to 45 Ganesh Mandals in Pune under relevant Sections of the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules & Indian Penal Code (IPC). Further investigation is underway.
