Now, name change on MSEDCL bills for the resale flats & shops becomes easy

After Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on December 1 issued a directive, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has made the procedure for a change of name on the electricity bills after the sale of a shop or flat or any commercial establishment.
Earlier the procedure would take up to few weeks to be completed but now the same process can be done within a few days.

MSEDCL managing director Vijay Singhal informed that the new step would do away with the paperwork and will be faster. This is an initiative under the ‘Ease of Living program’ run by the government. Earlier, after payment of stamp duty and registration of a new property (flat), the owner had to make an application to the MSEDCL with relevant documents which would then scrutinized by the MSEDCL staff. The property owners would be asked to pay the relevant fees. But now, the property owner need not move from his house as MSEDCL has linked its Information Technology system to the stamp duty and registration department which means that after the purchase of a flat or shop it will automatically show on the system. The MSEDCL officials will only send an SMS to the consumer demanding fees for the transfer of name online from home. The name change will be reflected in the next bill in the new owner’s name automatically.
