Veteran duo’s unbeaten 168-run stand rescues India from whitewash, stirring speculation over their future tours to Australia

Rohit Sharma has sparked retirement and farewell speculation after posting a cryptic message on social media, saying, “One last time, signing off from Sydney,” alongside a photograph taken at the Sydney airport.

The post immediately triggered emotional reactions from fans who questioned whether this marked his final appearance in Australia.

This comes shortly after India’s nine-wicket win in the third ODI against Australia, where Rohit and Virat Kohli stitched together an unbeaten 168-run partnership to avoid a series whitewash. Rohit scored a brilliant 121, while Kohli added a composed 74.

Speaking after the match, Rohit reflected on his journey in Australia and hinted that this tour could be his and Kohli’s last in the country.

“Always love coming here and playing here. Fond memories of 2008. I’m not sure if we’ll be coming back to Australia,” the former captain said after being named Player of the Match and Series.

Both Rohit and Kohli have retired from Tests and T20Is, now focusing solely on ODIs, making every overseas series a subject of intense speculation regarding their futures.

Rohit also spoke about leadership, experience, and the responsibility of guiding younger players.
“When I came into the squad, seniors helped us a lot; now it’s our job to do the same. We need to guide them, create game plans, and go back to basics,” he said.

While he acknowledged the disappointment of losing the series, Rohit underlined the positives and the bond with Australian crowds and venues.
“I’ve had great memories here — from the SCG to Perth. I love playing here and hope to continue doing what I do,” he added.
