OnePlus admits error in OnePlus 12R storage specification, offers refund for 256GB variant

OnePlus recently launched the OnePlus 12R, boasting about its UFS 4.0 storage in the 256GB variant. However, users reported lower speeds, prompting the company to acknowledge an error.

OnePlus clarified that all variants of the OnePlus 12R actually feature UFS 3.1 storage, enhanced by the Trinity Engine’s software algorithms. Despite the confusion, users have found satisfactory performance in reading and writing to memory.

During the launch, OnePlus introduced Trinity Engine, a set of software algorithms designed to ensure fast and smooth operation of the phone’s memory and storage over time.

The company admitted the mistake in claiming UFS 4.0 storage for some variants and issued a statement, “I can now confirm that the storage in all variants of the OnePlus 12R is still enhanced by Trinity Engine but is actually UFS 3.1.”

In response to the situation, OnePlus President and COO Kinder Liu announced a plan of action, including a refund option for users who purchased the 256GB storage version.

However, this refund offer is valid only until March 16.

The distinction between UFS 3.1 and UFS 4.0 lies in their read and write speeds. UFS 4.0 generally offers faster performance, while UFS 3.1, though slightly slower, is commonly found in affordable premium and mid-range smartphones, including the OnePlus 11 Series.

Despite the storage clarification, OnePlus reassures users that the OnePlus 12R with UFS 3.1 storage will still deliver robust performance in memory-related tasks.
