Dombivli’s vibrant street food scene, once celebrated for its flavor and variety, is now facing scrutiny after a deeply disturbing incident came to light involving one of its most popular food stalls. Customers were left horrified after allegedly discovering live maggots in the chutney served with vada pav at the well-known Gajanan Vada Pav stall in Dombivli West. The discovery has sparked widespread public anger and prompted swift action from local authorities.

The issue came to attention when a few local vegetable vendors, who regularly buy meals from the Gajanan stall, purchased vada pav as usual. However, while eating, they noticed something moving in the chutney. A closer look revealed live maggots, prompting an immediate reaction. Shocked and disgusted, the women threw away the food and rushed to the stall, where they confronted the staff. The situation quickly escalated as bystanders gathered and expressed their outrage.

News of the incident spread rapidly across the neighborhood, triggering a wave of public frustration. The stall, known for drawing long queues, now found itself at the center of a hygiene scandal. Among those who responded to the growing chaos was local social worker Kashibai Jadhav, who immediately reported the incident to Rajesh Sawant, the Ward Officer of the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation.

Recognizing the seriousness of the complaint, Officer Sawant acted without delay. Accompanied by municipal officials and local police, he conducted a surprise inspection of the stall. The investigation confirmed the presence of maggots in the chutney, revealing a serious breach of food safety standards. In light of these findings, authorities ordered the immediate sealing of the Gajanan Vada Pav stall.

Officials also collected food samples and sent them to the Food and Health Department for lab testing. It has been confirmed that strict legal action will follow once the test results are finalized. The incident has raised pressing concerns about food hygiene, particularly in popular roadside eateries, where high footfall often overshadows lapses in cleanliness and safety.

This incident has not only angered the citizens of Dombivli but has also reignited debates about public health, food vendor accountability, and municipal enforcement. Many residents are now demanding regular inspections, higher standards, and strict penalties for those who compromise consumer safety in the name of profit.
